Why don’t you open a branch in the Old Village Hall, or move something over there (like the Children’s Library) to open up more space in the existing building?
The Huntley Area Public Library very much appreciates the generosity of the many banks, and other agencies, as well as the Village of Huntley in allowing us to use the old Village Hall rooms for meetings and programs. However, the rooms at the old Village Hall can hold only about 20-25 people, limiting the number of people that can participate, and are not always available for library purposes since other organizations in the community use them.
The library collection of books, magazines, and other materials is only available at the library. People who attend a program off-site and want to borrow materials have to make another stop. This is especially difficult for parents of young children. To open additional locations would add to the operating costs.
Another downside of holding programs outside the library is the amount of staff time consumed in finding and reserving a location, setup for the program, and clean up and taking down the room afterward. In addition, another staff member is often needed to assist, taking time away from his or her other duties.
