I don't believe you will spend the increased taxes wisely. You created a grandiose building and wasted that money in the past. Now you do not release plans on ow you will spend an increase in our tax support. Since I live in LITH and use the Algonquin Library would like I transfer over to their library and support them. You would have one less patron and I would be where I want to be.
Dear Patron,
We are sorry you feel we wasted your money in the past. I’m not sure what you are referring to when you say the building is grandiose and therefore I cannot address that point. We would be happy to give you a tour of the building if you like.
The reason we have not released plans on the design of the proposed building is that the library board did not want to spend the money for an architect to create the design of a building until the referendum was passed. After that happens, I’m sure the public will have opportunities to see the design, once it is created.
One of the very good things about this area of the state is that there are a number of libraries you can visit and use. If you prefer to use the Algonquin Library, all you need to do is take your Huntley Area Public Library card with you. (I don’t know if they have any restrictions on reciprocal borrowing; you might want to check that with them).
However, it might interest you to know that before their community worked together to build the new 35,000 square foot main library on Harnish Drive in Algonquin, they were operating from a building about the same size ours is now…15,000 square feet.
I don’t know what procedure you would follow to switch your support to the Algonquin Library. However, I believe their total tax rate is about 35 cents right now.
Our operating rate currently is about 17 cents and with the proposed increase of 7.5 cents, our total operating rate will still be less.
Please let me know if you have any further questions.
