What can you get for $5

On November 4, 2008 residents of the Huntley Area Public Library District will have an opportunity to decide the future of our community’s library.

Approval of the proposed referendum would cost the owner of an average home with a market value of $250,000 about $5 per month. That would mean:

■ a library 3 times the size of the current building
■ more copies of books, audio books, movies & music
■ more public computers
■ more seating
■ quiet study areas
■ programs at the library
■ local history area
■ larger, separate children’s area

The $5 per month you would pay is based on an increase in the operating rate of 7½ cents (0.075%) bringing the library’s tax rate up to .24886 cents. That is less than the amount approved by taxpayers 20 years ago.

An expansion of the library can only happen with a majority of “YES” votes on November 4th.
