Greg Heffley’s best friend, Rowley, has a girlfriend (Abigail), with whom he is spending all of his time, and Greg desperately needs to make some new friends.  The prospects are pretty bleak, though, and Greg is hoping that the happy couple breaks up before it’s too late and he becomes some kind of social pariah.  Meanwhile, he has plenty of family drama to distract him – Mom’s family is getting together and it looks like there’s going to be a huge fight over Meemaw’s diamond ring.  Again.

Greg Heffley’s really grown on me.  When I first started reading these, I thought he was a self-centered pain-in-the-butt, but then I realized that he reminds me of some of my more dramatic (and whiny) guy friends.  So, I now feel like I can understand him and relate to him, and just enjoy the drama (and hilarity) as it unfolds.  He’s still kind of clueless about some things, but I’m finding it more adorable than annoying these days.  Carry on, Mr. Kinney!  We are all clamoring for more!
