 Huntley Area Public Library District FRIENDS FOUNDATION Meeting Minutes – Friday, April 16, 2010 I. CALL MEETING TO ORDER – Genevieve Hochwarter President Genevieve Hochwarter called the meeting to order at 11:05 In attendance: Deanna Engelke Nancy Hardy Pamela Kampwerth Norma Henson Genevieve Hochwarter John Lash Mary Lash Patrick McDonald Janis Ruffino Martha Schooley Judy Schrader Reta Stohs Leslie Threadgill-Smith II. PRESIDENT’S REPORT – Genevieve Hochwarter Genevieve Hochwarter welcomed everyone and introduced two new members. III. DIRECTOR’S REPORT – Patrick McDonald A. Thanked the Friends for providing lunch for the Library Staff on Tuesday during National Library Workers Week. The food was delicious! B. Also during Library Week, Culver’s offered people with Huntley library cards a 10 cent sundae and also provided an opportunity to sign up for a card if they didn’t have one. IV. SECRETARY’S REPORT – Janis Ruffino (for Francis Wilson) A. Reta Stohs moved to approve the minutes as written. Leslie Threadgill-Smith seconded and motion carried. V. TREASURER’S REPORT – Norma Henson SUMMARY MARCH YTD Corner Books $1,833.35 $3,498.53 Book Sale $0,000.00 $640.00 Membership $70.00 $240.00 Library Lovers $132 $460.00 Harris Bank Account Balance as of 3/31/2010: $1,759.47 Nancy Hardy moved to accept the Treasurer’s Report. Judy Schrader seconded and motion carried. VI. OLD BUSINESS A. Received notification from IRS that Friends Foundation is exempt from federal income tax. 1. Next Step is to apply for State of Illinois Tax exemption B. Kosta’s was very generous in providing the food for National Library Workers Lunch. C. May nominations for Board of Directors (up to 10 Board members) 1. All current members are on the ballot. 2. Talk to Genevieve if interested. D. Corner Books – Janis reported that things continue to go well. E. Book Memorials – Books for Earl Cornwell and John Wydra have been purchased. Still to be determined is a $50.00 donation in honor of Nancy Gerwig. F. Survey money is expected soon. G. Golf Outing Update 1. Things are going well. VII. NEW BUSINESS A. Summer Book Sales 1. First Saturday of month June-August 8:30 – 12:30 at OVH. 2. Volunteer sign-up sheet available B. Summer Reading Registration 1. June 9 & 10 Theme: Bugs & Insects 2. Friends have donated money for refreshments and activities. 3. Volunteer sign-up sheet available and people needed to buy candy, water, ice, surprise activities, etc. C. Adult Summer Reading 1. Corner book coupons provided for finishers. 2. $25 gift card raffle prize for staff who finish. 3. Finale is August 6. D. Back to School Event 1. Friday, August 13 at the Library. 2. School starts August 25. E. Culver’s Fundraiser in Fall 1. Date – TBA 2. 4 hours – bus tables – 10% of sales. F. Reminder about Volunteer Open House on April 21 VIII. COMMENTS/QUESTIONS Members were reminded of upcoming events and meetings. IX. MOTION TO ADJOURN Martha Schooley moved to adjourn meeting at 11:55 A.M., Nancy Hardy seconded and motion carried.
