She makes a living by selling items. But one day, she meets an old school friend, Shauzia, who also disguises herself as a boy! Then one day Parvana’s older sister is going to get married. When 10-year-old Parvana’s father is taken to a Taliban jail for doing no wrong thing at all, her family decides that she should cut her hair and become a boy. She needed to become a boy because in Afghanistan women are not allowed to go outside their home without a man. If she went out without a man she would be beaten and her family would starve! So Parvana’s sister goes to get married where there is no Taliban BUT…the Taliban invade!
