Huntley (Illinois) Area Public Library District—Head of IT

The Huntley Area Public Library District, a busy, mid-sized suburban library serving a population of approximately 45,000 citizens in and around the Village of Huntley, Illinois (a far northwest suburb of Chicago), is seeking a a Head of IT (Systems Administrator) to help us fulfill our mission of library services to the community we serve.

What we need:

Overview: Responsible for managing and supervising the library’s technical operations which includes ensuring all technology systems and applications support the library’s goals and objectives. This position would also oversee IT department employees and IT consulting service providers.

Essential Job Functions:

● Overseeing all IT operations, including infrastructure and staff

● Managing all IT network and system administration for the library

● Oversees all computer hardware and software, and manages all IT functions related to library’s hardware and software

● Manages all library cloud computing functions

● Developing, implementing, and evaluating IT projects in line with organizational objectives

● Liaising with other departments, determining and addressing their IT needs and requirements

● Managing and supervising employees in the IT department

● Ensuring the maintenance of current projects and technology systems

● Identifying vulnerabilities, the need for upgrades, and opportunities for improvement

● Proposing strategic solutions and recommending new systems, platforms, and software

● Preparing departmental financial budgets and performance reports

● Building, managing, and maintaining relationships with external advisors and vendors

● Ensuring reported issues are resolved in a timely manner

● Performs other duties as assigned

 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

● Sound understanding of computer systems, networks, security, telecommunications, databases and storage systems

● Strong interpersonal, communication and leadership skills

● Ability to manage and prioritize tasks and projects

● Must be able to maintain confidentiality as required by the library

● Solid working knowledge of all relevant coding languages and security protocols

● Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills

● Must work well with in team settings

● In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the following represent the physical and environmental demands of this position: this position requires approximately equal amounts of time spent standing, walking, and sitting. Lifting, pushing/pulling, and carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds is sometimes required. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and bending are sometimes required. Repetitive movements of the hands and arms are sometimes required. Audio, visual, and verbal functions are essential to performing this position.

 

Minimum Qualifications:

● Bachelor’s Degree in computer science or a related field required

● Strong knowledge of Microsoft products (client and network)

● Strong knowledge of cloud-based Microsoft and Google platforms and products

● Proof of completed continuing education, such as certifications, is desirable

● 3+ years of management experience in an IT environment preferred

● Sound working knowledge of IT operations, systems, and developments

● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

● Strong leadership and project management skills

● Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

● Must be able to work some evenings and weekends

 

Schedule

40 hours per week, with some flexible scheduling, but typically Monday-Friday with some evenings and weekends required
