Hello audiobook-listening friends! I hope you’re having a great summer. I decided to focus on some gardening projects this month, so I’ve been listening to audiobooks while I’m weeding, planting, and doing yardwork. Time really flies by when you have a good reader, a good story, and endless work to do. I stayed out one night until I couldn’t see what I was doing anymore. 🙂 I also spend a fair amount of time driving places, so I usually have an audiobook playing while I am traveling. I listen and walk/hike, too. How about you? What kinds of activities have you been doing this month while you read/listened?
Here are some books I finished this month (if you click on the titles/links, you’ll get a more in-depth synopsis/review):
The Inheritance Games, by Jennifer Lynne Barnes – girl living in her car inherits billions, but has no apparent connection to her benefactor – mystery ensues! (sequel, The Hawthorne Legacy, is coming out in September, 2021)
The Girl From Everywhere AND The Ship Beyond Time (no review), by Heidi Heilig – time travel on the high seas and a little bit of romance; the first book takes place mostly in Hawaii!
The List of Things that Will Not Change, by Rebecca Stead – step into Bea’s head and learn what it’s been like for her as her folks divorced, her dad plans to remarry, and how people respond to learning that her dad is gay
Ink and Bone, by Rachel Caine – preparing for a career with the Great Library of Alexandria is much more dangerous than Jess expects, especially since he comes from a family of book thieves
I am also about halfway through Wild Bird (will review when I finish this one), by Wendelin Van Draanen, which I started earlier this week. I think I am going to end up loving it, but the main character/narrator, Wren, can be very vexing at times, and is definitely trying my patience in some chapters. She’s on a good trajectory, though, so I am hopeful for her.
