In June the No Sit Book Club met OUTSIDE went for a very LONG walk through the park that’s adjacent to the library while we talked about the books we’ve been reading (and apparently everyone was still recovering in July, so we took the month off. If you would like to join us in August, please register to attend. You can read whatever books you like and share your thoughts about them. If the weather refuses to cooperate, we’ll have our discussion inside in one of the program rooms. You can find more book club dates on the library’s online events calendar.
Here are some books we talked about:
The Twisted Tales series, by numerous authors – Each of these tells a different version of a traditional tale/story (like Rapunzel, Alice in Wonderland, Aladdin, Mulan, Little Mermaid, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty). (for middle and high school teens)
Lord of the Rings/the Hobbit series, by J.R.R. Tolkien – One of our attendees was starting to read these for the first time. If you’ve read them, what do you think? Is The Hobbit an easier to get into read than the LOTR trilogy? Some of us loved the movies (and I still remember and love the campy animated movies for the books).
The Wrath and the Dawn, by Renee Ahdieh – An Arabian Nights retelling for teens. Our attendees who had read this mentioned “murdered wives” (the protagonist Shahrzad attempts to avenge her friend who was murdered by the Caliph).
Members were interested in reading more books that featured an enemies-to-lovers plot. Love it or hate it?
The Summer I Turned Pretty, by Jenny Han – This is the first book in a romance/love-triangle trilogy by the same name and was recently made into an Amazon Prime series (season 1 is available now, and it’s already been renewed for a second season). Lots of buzz about this book/trilogy thanks to the Amazon show! Have you read it?
