The revolution is finally taking place.  The Rising has released a water-borne plague which has brought the Society to its knees.  The Rising has the only cure, and is distributing it as quickly and as widely as possible.  Its leaders plan to take over where the Society has left off once the populace is cured.  But their plans go awry when the virus mutates and people begin to die.  If they can’t find a cure (and soon), they could lose most of the citizens.  Cassia, Ky, and Xander are all part of the Rising, though they are in different places doing different things.  The leader of the Rising (the Pilot) brings them all together to find a cure.  Xander’s experience with plague victims and Cassia’s sorting expertise may be just what’s needed.  Ky finds himself in the unenviable position of “test subject” when he succumbs to the illness himself.

This is written from the points of view of the three main characters and follows their experiences and contributions to the efforts of the Rising as well as their own personal motivations.  Although this is set against the suspenseful backdrop of a revolution and an epidemic, there is plenty of room for character development.  Readers who have been on this journey from the beginning will appreciate their growth along the way, as they learn what their talents can accomplish and find the freedom to make choices about who they will become in the future.  A satisfying conclusion to this trilogy.
