In the first book of the Falconer trilogy, Aileana Kameron discovered she was a warrior with special gifts (a Falconer) and vowed to take her vengeance on the Fae who had murdered her mother. She failed in her quest to renew the seal that kept human and Fae worlds separate, which the Fae exploited by invading the human lands and destroying any human habitations and inhabitants they encountered. Now Aileana has been taken prisoner by a Baobhan Sith known as Lonnrach, who is attempting to use her memories to locate something that will allow him to overcome any who try to oppose him – a special crystal from ancient times. Aileana must somehow escape, locate her friends (human and Fae) if they’re still alive, and prevent Lonnrach from finding what he seeks. Alileana’s world is vividly realized and she gains some new powers and understanding of the entwined histories of the Seelie and Unseelie courts, but there is no happy ending here and those following her story will have to read the final volume in this series if they hope for a resolution. Note: There are some difficult scenes involving torture (the victims of which are clearly traumatized by their experiences).
