The Selection series is a book series that perfectly blends The Hunger Games with The Bachelor. It’s a romance cake with an icing of adventure and sprinkles of dystopia. One might say that the book would’ve been a hodge podge that wouldn’t blend together nicely, but I definitely recommend this book to any other teen interested in the romance and drama of a princess, but the adventure of a dystopia. I have read the first 3 books to complete the journey for the young five, America, but I have yet to even be able to get my hands on the fourth installment, The Heir.

As the end of the competition approaches, America must figure out what she wants as her future. Whether that is to be with Maxon as Crown Princess or to go back to her home. I didn’t like how long it took for America to choose her future, but luckily it ended well. For middle and high school teens.

It’s time for the winner of the Selection to be crowned! In this book, America discovers her own secrets, as well as her father’s. Who will Prince Maxon Schreave pick? Will he pick America Singer, the unpredictable one who currently has his heart? Or will he pick the people’s choice, Kriss?

“The One” was the best book in the Selection series for me. America is still annoying in this book, but slightly less so. My favorite line in the book was this, “Break my heart. Break it a thousand times if you like. It was only ever yours to break anyway.” I loved the chemistry in this book, and I hoped that I would like books 4 and 5 in this series, but I was wrong. If you are reading the Selection series, this is the best place to stop! For younger (middle school) teens.
