Job Title: Processing Assistant 

Job Type: Part-Time 

Department: Collection Services 

Schedule: 20 hours per week 

  • Afternoons, evenings and/or weekends 

Salary: $14.00 Hourly 

Position Summary 

The Processing Assistant provides library materials to the public in a timely manner by processing and repairing materials for the library collection. 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Assists in the processing of library materials for circulation, including stamping ownership on the materials, attaching and creating labels and barcodes. 
  • Repairs books and other materials; counts items mended. 
  • Sort items for decisions on repairing or discarding; affixes new barcodes and repackages as needed. 
  • Edits item records for repaired materials. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Ability to type, to read written materials, to maintain files, to operate computers and other library machines and equipment. 
  • Attention to detail. 
  • Ability to work as a team and independently as needed. 
  • Ability to retrieve and return books and other library materials to shelves or other designated places. 
  • In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the following represent the physical and environmental demands of this position: this position requires approximately equal amounts of time spent standing, walking, and sitting. Lifting, pushing/pulling, and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds is sometimes required. Climbing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, twisting, and bending are sometimes required. Repetitive movements of the hands and arms are sometimes required. Visual and verbal functions are essential to performing this position.

Minimum Qualifications 

  • Requires a high school diploma, GED, or two years of library or comparable experience. 
  • Knowledge of Excel and Word a plus.
