It’s been a year since Najwa’s best friend Trina died during a Scrabble tournament, and it’s been that long since Najwa has competed. She’s returning to the competition circuit now as a tribute to her friend’s memory. Being around her former friends and rivals is both comforting and upsetting, and things get even worse when someone starts posting clues from Trina’s Instagram account that suggest her death was anything BUT accidental. Najwa is determined to figure out what’s going on AND win the tournament. She puts her amateur detective skills to work, but the culprit is maddeningly elusive! Filled with details of Scrabble gameplay and strategy and a diverse group of characters (with motives!), this is a compelling mystery that will keep readers guessing. For middle and high school teens.
