Princess Eadlyn, daughter of King Maxon and Queen America, has come to her age of marrying. She must go through her own Selection like her father with the selected men of her country. Will she be able to find her true love like her father and mother did? I didn’t like how spoiled Eadlyn acted. For middle and high school teens.
Review #2
* * Stars (Just ok.)
“The Heir” by Kiera Cass is the fourth book in the Selection series. It is set 20 years after the events of the original trilogy. It follows Eadlyn Schreave, the daughter of Maxon and America, who is now the heir to the throne of Illea. Due to pressures and unrest in Illea, she agrees to participate in a Selection of her own. She reluctantly meets 35 suitors. Eadlyn initially approaches the process with a cold heart, believing she doesn’t need a man to rule. As the Selection progresses, she finds herself challenged by unexpected feelings and the realization that her perspective on love and leadership might need to change. Will Eadlyn find her match? Read the book to find out!
I liked the pacing of the plot in this book and the new characters’ introduction. I loved how some of our beloved characters from the Selection trilogy returned. Cass’s writing is easy to understand and the descriptions of the palace make this book more interesting. However, Eadlyn’s character can come across as unlikable and stubborn. This makes it hard to connect with her at times. This book does not fully capture the original specialty of the Selection trilogy but is a decent read if you liked the Selection trilogy. For middle school and high school readers.
