Moongarden – book review

Moongarden
Plotting the Stars #1

* * * Stars (Pretty good)

In the future, on the Moon, where humans were forced to flee when the Earth’s plants turned against them, Myra Hodger is attending boarding school. Everyone expects her to follow in the footsteps of her Number Whisperer parents, but her talents lie elsewhere. If she doesn’t discover her particular brand of magic soon (she hasn’t shown any affinity for anything else either), she’ll have to leave school and be, GASP, normal. While cutting class one day to avoid her shame, she discovers an unused classroom and a secret garden hidden below. It’s in that garden where her talents begin to reveal themselves and she uncovers many other secrets that others have been hiding from them all. Very loosely a retelling of “The Secret Garden,” but very much its own thing, this is an intriguing beginning to a new series. For grades 5-8.
