The kingdom is split into two groups, the Elites and the Ordinaries. The Elites have special powers and the Ordinaries don’t. The King ordered all the Ordinaries to be killed. There are two main characters, Paedyn is kind of hiding in plain sight because she is an Ordinary. She is forced to participate in an trial, similar to a Hunger Games but not everyone has to die. She has to try to survive around all the other Elites who are using their powers to fight and try to kill each other. The other main character is Kai, who is a prince who is an Elite and has powers, and he is in the trial. Kai is responsible to for giving the orders to kill the ordinaries. Kai and Paedyn fall in love.
I really liked how Paedyn always spoke her mind and how the characters reacted to what she had to say. For middle school teens.
