Groundbreaking 2-19-2020 – Updated 2-21-20

February 19, 2020 marks the next chapter in the Huntley Area Public Library’s expansion project. On this day, several local officials, including representatives from the Village, Park District, School District and Police Department were joined by architects, builders, volunteers, Friends Foundation members and library staff to commemorate the official groundbreaking of the new Huntley Area Public Library. The small gathering included discussion from Library Director Frank Novak who graciously thanked all involved with the project from the initial conversations, to the community that voted in favor of the project by over 67%. Wold Architects and the Gilbane Building Company also spoke, and presented a timeline of the project. The discussion concluded with some kind words and a presentation of a Groundbreaking Certificate of Recognition by Huntley Mayor Chuck Sass.

Construction begins on Friday, February 21 inside the library. With the construction underway, unfortunately a few programs  have been canceled. This includes the February Friends Foundation General Meeting and February’s Lego® Club scheduled for Monday, February 24. Lego® builders may register for the March program now!

Tentative Schedule for Building Program

  • Phase One: April 2021
  • Phase Two: December 2021
  • Project Completion: January 2022

Expect additional program cancellations and possible library closures during the project. We will do our very best to provide updates as they become available. To have the latest library news delivered to your inbox, subscribe to eNews.
