Huntley, IL – The final stages of the Huntley Area Public Library’s two-year building program are taking place as 2021 ends. Parts of the collection are being relocated, new equipment is getting set up, staff are moving into their new spaces, and the countdown is on to explore your FRESH, new library.
Good news, fencing around the library’s parking lot has been removed. What does that mean? Nothing, right now. The library’s temporary entrance will be in use until we close on December 31, 2021 for the final construction stage.
Phase 2 of the library’s construction project begins in April. Projected closure dates are Monday, March 15 up to Monday, April 26, 2021.
Despite the COVID-19 situation, the library’s construction project continues to move forward. Gilbane Building Company, the library’s construction management firm, is following all recommended guidelines to ensure that members of the trades, staff members, and the public are safe while work is performed. The library is doing its best to use this mandatory closure to its advantage to get certain aspects of the job done now to avoid more closures later and reduce the impact … Read more
Dear Residents: We have good news to report regarding the financial health of our building project! Through sound financial planning, the referendum approved for $12,900,000 by voters will only result in $12,245,000 payback, saving taxpayers an average of over 5% annually. Also, the bond will be paid in 19 years instead of 20, saving taxpayers even more. After the overwhelming 67% approval of the referendum in April 2019, the library received a bond rating of … Read more
It’s not a typical Monday at the Huntley Area Public Library. The day usually begins with a cup of coffee and a quick recap of what we have going on this week. Not today. Today on a rather gray, rainy morning, the construction crew was hard at work demolishing the temporary trailers that used to be the Children’s Area of the library and the program room.
Over the past few months, the library has shifted collections, moved the Children’s Area and Program Room, and relocated some staff. It was all done in preparation for phase one of the building project. It is a little noisy at the library today as construction has begun.
February 19, 2020 marks the next chapter in the Huntley Area Public Library’s expansion project. On this day, several local officials, including representatives from the Village, Park District, School District and Police Department were joined by architects, builders, volunteers, Friends Foundation members and library staff to commemorate the official groundbreaking
This has been an incredible week. Staff and crews have worked feverishly to bring nearly 2,900 sq. ft. of materials, equipment and offices back into the main library. When our doors reopen on Wednesday, October 23, 2019 you will immediately notice the difference in the library you knew and the library as it is today. We know it will be different, and we know it will feel cramped. It is only temporary as we begin the next stage of the building program.
If you’ve been to the library lately, you have probably noticed that changes are taking place. It could be shelving moving locations, collections being moved, tables and seating areas being reconfigured.
