Alex is 13-years-old when he is purged for being creative. He is scared to be separated from his brother Aaron, but he makes many new friends along the way.

At a certain age, children are given a rating and are banished if they get a bad rating. Ratings show social status. The main characters are twins who get very different ratings. I did not like this book because it was really hard to get into, and overall the plot was pretty boring.
