Kayla McHenry turns 16 and her mother – the party planner – throws her the most horrifying Sweet Sixteen party ever.  Too much pink, too much cake, and too many people – none of them friends.  As she blows out her birthday candles Kayla wishes for all of her birthday wishes to come true, which they start to do the following day when Kayla finds an actual, living My Little Pony in her yard.  Kayla’s birthday wishes are the sort that give credence to the saying, “Be careful what you wish for!”  A room full of gumballs, her Raggedy Ann doll coming to life, dating Ken (Barbie’s boyfriend), and turning into a mermaid whenever she gets wet are wreaking havoc on Kayla.  When she remembers that one of her birthday wishes was to steal a kiss off her best friend’s boyfriend, Kayla goes into panic mode.  She doesn’t want to be THAT girl.  Can she break the birthday curse before the worst happens?

Funny and entertaining, “You Wish” also has hidden depths as Kayla deals with family and friendship issues and finally figures out what she wants and who she wants to be.  Which of your birthday wishes would come back to bite you if they came true?
