The Huntley Library’s Zombie Prom took place on October 29, 2010. Attendees were able to give themselves and other prom guests zombie makeovers. When everyone was properly zombified, we took prom pictures! Prom favors featured miniature disco balls and bloodied corsages (which the teens made themselves). The teens (and the Young Adult Librarian) tried to learn how to dance Michael Jackson’s “Thriller,” but even the slow version had them confused and out of breath. Teens … Read more
Rebecca Huston, henna artist from Heathen Ink (Summit, IL), returned to the Huntley Library in June of 2010 to share the history of henna body art with area teens. All participants went home with a temporary henna tattoo (lasting around 2 – 4 weeks), and information about how to create henna art of their own. Some of the teens even designed and applied their own tattoos!

Teen Zine members and other teens met at the Huntley Area Public Library on October 30, 2009, for an evening of spooky, costumed fun! They investigated several crime scenes and solved a kidnapping mystery, watched Teen Zine’s scary movie “The Book,” took a Monster Personality quiz, and bowled with eyeballs (someone even got a strike – yuck!)! Check out these photos from the event…
Anime and manga enthusiasts were encouraged to submit their best work for the library’s art contest during the month of August, 2009. We received some really great entries from area teens, and it was really difficult to choose a winner! Thank you to all who entered, and congratulations to Cara, who was our winner! You’re all very talented, and we hope you continue drawing and creating!
On August 19, 2009, the Huntley Area Public Library threw a celebration bash for its Junior Volunteers, young people in grades 7 – 12, who helped out with the Children’s reading program and other activities over the summer. Many of these teens volunteered their time every week! Thank you, Junior Volunteers! We couldn’t have done it without you!
Shannon Townsend (aka Kenmei Rokugatsu), manga and webcomic artist taught a class on the art of anime and manga. Teens in grades 6 – 12 attended and learned the basics of how to draw in this style.
