  • Position: Creative Studio Specialist 
  • Status: Non-exempt 
  • Grade: 6
  • Salary range: 33,000 to 56,000 
  • Number of hours per week: Full-Time 
  • Reports to: Head of IT 

Description:

This position is responsible for maintaining the Creative Studio, operating Creative Studio equipment, completing administrative tasks, assisting Creative Studio visitors, and exploring new technology equipment for the Creative Studio. 

Essential Job Functions: 

  • Provide excellent customer service to patrons of diverse ages and abilities. 
  • Assist patrons with Creative Studio equipment. 
  • Assist patrons with creative project 
  • Maintain makerspace equipment and supplies 
  • Community outreach 
  • Promote the use of the Creative Studio and the Library. 
  • Facilitate ongoing activities in the Creative Studio. 
  • Teach technology and maker classes. 
  • Troubleshoot equipment and technology. 
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of technology offered at the Library. 
  • Commitment to creating a hands-on learning environment. 
  • Performs other duties as assigned. 

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

  • Knowledge in Windows, Mac, Android, and iOS operating systems and software. 
  • Basic knowledge or ability to learn design/editing software including Adobe Creative Cloud. 
  • Aptitude with creative/maker technology software and equipment. Including but not limited to 3D Printers, Laminators, Tracing Table, Electronic Cutting Tools, Fabric Cutters, and Digital Conversion Services 
  • Experience providing group and one-on-one technology instruction. 
  • Ability to handle a variety of situations using independent judgment. 
  • Ability to interact patiently and pleasantly with patrons. 
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team. 
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively. 
  • Attention to detail, accuracy in work, and receptiveness to change. 
  • High school diploma   
  • Strong customer service orientation. 
  • Ability to work and communicate orally and in writing, in an effective manner, with the public and staff. Capacity to communicate effectively on the telephone. Ability to speak effectively in front of groups.  
  • Ability to type, to read written materials, to maintain files, to operate computers and other library machines and equipment.   
  • In compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, the following represent the physical and environmental demands of this position: this position requires approximately equal amounts of time spent standing, walking, and sitting. Lifting, pushing/pulling, and carrying of objects weighing up to 25 pounds is sometimes required. Repetitive movements of the hands and arms are sometimes required. 

Minimum Qualifications: 

Bachelor’s Degree preferred or at least two years of college or five years of related experience in training and technology. Coursework in technology and training preferred. Some public service experience is highly desirable.  Must be able to work some weekdays, evenings, weekends, and school holidays.  Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle are required.

  • Creative Studio Duties 70% 
  • Program Planning 25% 
  • Special Assignments 5%
