“I Hope This Doesn’t Find You” by Ann Liang follows Sadie Wen who is the epitome of a perfect student. She is the school captain, valedictorian, and a delight to have in class. Maintaining her reputation is tough, so she vents her frustrations by drafting unsent emails. Sadie would never send these emails because they were never intended to be sent. These emails help her manage her anger toward various individuals, including her English teacher and classmates. Most of her drafts are directed at Julius Gong, her co-captain, with whom she has been rivals since childhood. One day, all of Sadie’s drafts are sent out, and her life takes a rapid turn. Will Sadie be able to confront the recipients of her emails? What will become of Sadie’s rivalry with Julius? Read the book to find out!
“I Hope This Doesn’t Find You” has wonderful humor that kept me interested. Sadie and Julius’s rivalry is funny and tense which keeps the plot going. The romance between Sadie and Julius is predictable, but it is interesting. This book is very similar to “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” by Jenny Han. “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before” and “I Hope This Doesn’t Find You” have many similar aspects like how their private letters or emails get unexpectedly sent out one day and they have to confront the recipients of their letters or emails. If you liked “To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before”, this book is for you! For high school teens.
