Sunny St. James is ready to start her life as the New Sunny after receiving a heart transplant and meeting her estranged birth mother after 8 years of separation. She’s also on a mission to find a new best friend and a boy (definitely a boy) to kiss. It’s a lot for one girl over the course of one summer to accomplish. There are a lot of complicated feelings to explore about all of these things. But even though life is messy and living for real, out loud, can be scary, it’s also beautiful and wonderful and precious, and Sunny wants to experience it in all of its tumultuous waves. With a diverse cast of characters who are willing to hash out some hard conversations, this realistic offering will have readers laughing and crying along as Sunny embraces her new life. For tweens (grades 6-8).
