National Library Week – The Library is Your Literary Canvas

Huntley, IL – April 2, 2024 – National Library Week is right around the corner, and the Huntley Area Public Library is thrilled to extend an invitation to celebrate with an exciting lineup of events from April 7th to April 13th, 2024. As we mark our 35th Anniversary, we invite you to join us in recognizing the boundless possibilities that the library offers as your literary canvas.

One of the highlights of this celebratory week is the opportunity for patrons to get creative and design a new library card! Starting April 7th, design forms will be available at all library service desks. Simply pick up a form, unleash your creativity, and return the completed design by April 13th. An online version of the form is also available on the library’s website at https://www.huntleylibrary.org/nlw2024. Winners will be chosen in two categories: Children’s and Teen/Adult, with winning designs becoming the official library cards for National Library Card Sign-Up Month in September.

Additionally, on Friday, April 12th, from noon to 8 p.m., the library is teaming up with The Lakehouse Tattoo for a special Flash Day event exclusively for adults aged 18 and above. Browse book-themed tattoo designs and flash sheets by talented artists, with the chance to win prizes by showing your HAPL card.

But the festivities don’t stop there! Throughout the week, the library is partnering with local businesses to showcase the value of your library card beyond the bookshelves. Present your Huntley Area Public Library card at participating establishments to enjoy exclusive discounts and offers, including free consultations, discounted meals, and much more.

In addition to these community collaborations, the library is hosting a virtual discussion and an evening with mystery/thriller author Charlie Donlea on April 8th and April 10th, respectively. Join in for a captivating conversation and a chance to interact with the acclaimed author.

“We’re thrilled to celebrate National Library Week and our 35th Anniversary with our incredible Huntley Area community,” said Doug Cataldo, Head of Marketing at Huntley Area Public Library. “Our library is more than just a repository of books, movies, and music; it’s a place where imaginations soar, connections are made, and people can truly explore endless opportunities. We invite everyone to join us in celebrating the power of libraries to inspire and enrich lives.”
