This book is about a girl named Catherine. She is 12 years old and her brother has autism. Catherine’s brother’s name is David. Catherine tries to teach him “rules” so he doesn’t always embarrass her. Catherine meets 2 new friends in the book. Kristi is one of them – she moves in nextdoor with her mom. Then, there is Jason who Catherine meets at a clinic that her brother goes to. Jason can’t talk, so he uses cards with pictures. Catherine makes new cards for Jason because she enjoys art. So the main point of this book is Catherine facing obstacles so she can try to have a normal life. I thought this book was really good and a very fast read. It never gets boring!

I am reading the book Rules by Cynthia Lord and, I am currently on page 156.

This book is about a twelve-year-old girl named Catherine and her autistic brother. Catherine always makes rules for David, her younger brother, to follow. I feel bad for Catherine and her family because it must be hard to live well and also take care of her brother.

Later on in the book, a girl named Kristi moves next door from California.

Catherine decides it’s time to have time to her and have a friend. Throughout the story, Kristi and Catherine become good friends and do almost everything together. They go to the pool together, sports, and other activities.

Although they were best friends now, Catherine was still worried to tell Kristi about her brother and his problems. When Kristi finds out, she and David becomes great friends and also helps teach David. I liked how Kristi doesn’t get angry at Catherine but she helps David. I think that was kind of Kristi to do.

This is where I am currently in the novel and I am enjoying it so far! I liked how the author explains everything clearly. One thing that I wished was better was the background Catherine’s brother David, such as what was wrong with him and his life too. Knowing this would help the readers relate to David, Catherine, and her feelings in the story. I enjoy this book and will read on to see what happens next.
