* * * * Stars (Great!)
On Earth, where death runs rampant, a large company called “Death-Cast” seeks to fix that problem by predicting the deaths of those who sign up. Many people find this program to be a blessing, ensuring that they can say their goodbyes and find peace before death. Others find it to be an omen—perhaps the end of the world, or some evil dark magic. Nonetheless, the Death-Cast owner’s 19-year-old son, Alano Rosa, is in training to inherit the company. On the other side of the country, 19-year-old Paz Dario is completely tormented by his past with Death-Cast’s grave mistakes, even though his father is long gone. They have never met, but their futures together seem to be written in the stars regardless.
This book explores very heavy topics that may be triggering to certain audiences. That doesn’t make it a bad book, but I cried way too many times while reading it. These topics include self-harm, suicidal ideology/attempts, violence, hate crimes/speech, self-deprecation, substance abuse, death, grooming, and abuse. The characters in this book struggle with many challenges, but the story itself is very in-depth. I highly suggest reading the two previous books before reading this one because they are very interconnected and will make it a much more satisfying read if you have the whole picture. For high school teens + adults.
