1 Star (a waste of time)
“The Guard” by Kiera Cass follows Aspen, a palace guard in lllea, where the selection of a princess for Prince Maxon is happening. Aspen is torn between his duty and his feelings for a girl named Lucy, leading him to struggle with his inner conflicts. As tensions rise, Aspen is faced with difficult choices about his past and his future.
I did not like this book one bit. Aspen came across as a stereotype of a palace guard. This book is a novella that offers more insight into Aspen’s point of view since we get America’s point of view in the Selection trilogy. I felt that this book was a waste of time because it was filled with cliches and was honestly boring. For middle school readers.
