“Amal Unbound” by Aisha Saeed follows Amal, a young Pakistani girl who dreams of becoming a teacher. Her life takes a turn when she accidentally offends a powerful local landlord, Khan Sahib. As punishment, she is forced to be a servant at his estate. There, she encounters a world of oppression and injustice. Despite the challenges, Amal remains resilient and determined to regain her freedom. Will Amal discover the strength of her voice and the importance of standing up for what is right? Read the book to find out!

I liked how Amal’s character is strong and determined and she serves as a positive role model for young readers. I also liked how Saeed is not afraid to talk about topics like child labor. The book’s setting and cultural details are richly described, adding depth to the overall book. I also loved how Saeed’s writing was heartfelt. For upper elementary and middle school readers.
