IMPORTANT UPDATE: Huntley Area Public Library Closure to Extend up to Monday, February 7, 2022

Due to unforeseen circumstances the library will now open on Monday, February 7, 2022.

(Huntley, IL – Thursday, January 20, 2022) — At the Wednesday, January 20, 2022 Board of Trustees monthly meeting, the library board made the difficult decision to extend the library’s current closing period to up to Monday, February 7, 2022.

Additional time is needed to complete the building program. This decision was based from a few factors. The first was a roof issue that needs to be addressed at once. The second is a supply chain issue with some of the equipment and furniture needed in the renovated library. Finally, a few adjustments need to be made to the new drive-thru window before it is ready to be used.

What does this mean for you?

It means that the library will not be opening on Monday, January 24, 2022. We will need an additional two weeks to complete these tasks to have the full library open and safe for you to enjoy.

  • While we continue to be closed:
  • No fines will accumulate
  • No materials will be due
  • Regular library services will not be available
  • Most digital/online services will be available
  • Holds placed for pickup at Huntley after December 16 may not become available until after we reopen. You may place holds for pickup at other libraries during our closure.

Beginning February 7, 2022  The main entrance to the library will be fully accessible. You may enter the library’s parking lot via Main Street or Ruth Road and enter the library using the new main entrance. Once you are inside the building, you can explore the newly renovated area by walking through both sets of doors to the north. If you would like to head straight to our Children’s Library or Program Rooms, enter the first set of doors and take a right. Please be advised that some sections of the library may not be open or available on the 7th as we are taking precautions to assure your library experience is a safe one. Additionally, some furniture and fixtures in the building will still be missing due to ongoing supply chain concerns, so not everything will be 100% fully functional or look quite right.

As always, we appreciate your patience during this construction project and cannot wait to have you experience your FRESH new library.

While we are closed, please use our website to explore 24/7 online services, digital library programs, online reading programs and more!
