“Love, Hate & Other Filters” by Samira Ahmed follows Maya Aziz, a high school senior torn between her parents’ traditional expectations and her dreams of pursuing filmmaking. Maya navigates the challenges of cultural identity, young love, and Islamophobia after 9/11. When a terrorist attack occurs and the suspect shares her last name, Maya faces hostility from her community. Will Maya find a balance between her desires and her family’s values while confronting prejudice and fear? Read the book to find out!

I felt that the humor in this book is spot on. However, when Maya is finding love, there are so many cliches. This book is very predictable and it did not evoke any emotion in me. This book has potential, but the writing is hard to follow and the plot is tolerable. For middle and high school teens.
